KOTA KINABALU: A Sarawakian man
died two hours after he was shot at close range outside a coffee shop in
Beverly Hills, Jalan Bundusan, Penampang on Saturday night.
Teong Choon Kwong, 44, from Kuching, succumbed to the gunshot wound
on his right abdomen, at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital yesterday morning
at 12.10am.
State Commissioner of Police, Datuk Hamza Taib said that the victim
was believed to have been killed with a shot gun by an assailant while
he was talking on his mobile phone outside the coffee shop, at 10.30pm.
He collapsed at parking lot immediately after he was shot and a
couple of his friends, inside the coffee shop, rushed to his aid.
The victim was then taken to the hospital by a police officer who was patrolling in the area.
“Preliminary investigation shows that the assailant drove by the
area in a small white car and shot the victim once with a shotgun at
close range before fleeing the scene.
“Police are still looking for the suspect who was seen in a car believed to be a Kancil, Viva or Myvi.
“There have been no arrest made so far, and the case is still being
investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code,” said Hamza who added
that police are still investigating the motive of the attack.
He also urged witnesses to contact Penampang Police Chief, DSP Ratan Singh Kumar or the district’s Crime Investigation Division Chief.
Teong who operated a resort in Pulau Dinawan near Papar left behind a
wife and two children. His family however was not in the state when the
incident happened.
